Canadian police save a man's life, using a drone
Canadian police save a man's life, using a drone: "While we hear a lot about the ways in which hovering aerial drones can potentially be used to violate peoples’ privacy, it’s always nice to know that they can help us, too. That was the case last Thursday (May 9th), when RCMP from the Canadian city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan used a remotely-operated quadcopter to locate the victim of a single-vehicle rollover, which occurred in the countryside at near-freezing temperatures."

Lamborghini selfishly celebrates 50 years with Egoista concept
Lamborghini selfishly celebrates 50 years with Egoista concept: "Controversial – that's about the nicest way we can describe Lamborghini's 50th anniversary efforts on the concept car front. Just two months after showing the Veneno – arguably the most extreme(ly ugly) concept in its history – Lamborghini pushes the boundaries even further. The surprise Egoista concept is even more out there in design."

Funeral Industry Anticompetitive
Funeral Industry Anticompetitive: "Morbid though it may be, there are special interests in the funeral industry that attempt to distort the free market. When monks in Louisiana started selling coffins for half the state average, a state cartel of funeral home owners, acting under the auspices of the Louisiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors, blocked the monks from selling their coffins by enforcing onerous regulations. Similar legislation or regulations exist in many states, creating a nationwide system of overpriced funerals and caskets, says Eric Boem, a reporter for the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity."

Video: High energy laser takes out rocket from 1.5 km: "Lockheed Martin has released a video of ADAM, its high energy laser (HEL) system, taking out a rocket from a range of 1.5 km (0.9 miles). Slowed down, the 300-fps video clearly shows the laser beam striking and tracking a point towards the front of the rocket, before destroying it mid-flight."

Car-top cargo box doubles as a boat
Car-top cargo box doubles as a boat: "Given that people such as myself already have a tendency to mistake streamlined car-top boxes as whitewater kayaks, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that someone has gone and done the obvious – made a roof box that converts into a boat. Instead of serving as a kayak, however, the Boatbox can be rowed like a dinghy, or even fitted with a small motor or a sail."

A multi-functional tablet built for backcountry survival
A multi-functional tablet built for backcountry survival: "Smartphones, tablets and laptops are great when you're sitting on the couch or running around the city, but they aren't as great in the wilderness where cellular service disappears and bright sunlight renders LCD screens near-illegible. "

Abu Dhabi International Airport lets travelers rest up in cocoon-like GoSleep pods
Abu Dhabi International Airport lets travelers rest up in cocoon-like GoSleep pods: "If you’re a claustrophobic insomniac, the GoSleep sleeping pods probably won’t be of much interest to you, but for international travelers fighting with jet lag and tight schedules, being able to rent a private place to kip for an hour can be godsend. Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) announced last week that it has installed ten of the Finnish-designed GoSleep pods at Abu Dhabi International Airport to provide passengers with individual sleeping quarters while waiting for flights."
